One of the highlights of Junior League of Lafayette’s year is the annual Red Rooster social. Red Rooster is when the outgoing Provisional class, soon to be active Members, are officially welcomed by the first year active Members. It is a great time of mingling, sharing, and reflecting on the past year.
This year’s Red Rooster was attended by over 30 Members. It was a lovely afternoon of amazing women talking about their League experience thus far and what is to come as they continue on their League journey of service.
The afternoon presented opportunities to ask a few Provisionals to share why they joined Junior League of Lafayette and to talk about the Provisional Project, which is also a big deal in the League.
Outgoing Provisional Kelita Johnson said, “I am a servant leader. I knew that I needed to extend and plant myself deeper within the community beyond higher education and other nonprofits I have had the privilege of being a part of in Lafayette. Junior League of Lafayette was that extension, and my Provisional year has been an eye opener filled with organic friendships, sisterhood, and so much more. I saw my creative ideas come to fruition as my fellow Provisionals drew, stenciled, and painted the games on the sidewalks in Mouton Park for our Provisional Project. I saw my creativeness nurtured as videos and photographs were taken for our Provisional presentation. I have felt peace, joy, and gratitude as my hands wrap newborn diapers knowing that a parent, child, and family will benefit from my selfless act. These are the moments that made my Provisional year rewarding and meaningful.”
When asked about their Provisional Project, Crystal Fakier said, “What I loved about our project this year was the way we all came together for a great purpose. We saw firsthand, by kids there that day, that what we were doing was making a real difference for them and the community. I was so proud of how it all came together and how beautiful our project turned out. We have done something that can continue and be built on in the future.”
The 2023-2024 Provisional Class will enhance and move forward the Mission of Junior League of Lafayette.
